The Toronto Concert Band will be holding its formal launch announcement on May 24, 2014 at the Etobicoke Youth Band’s Spring Musical 2014 concert at the MacMillan Theatre, in the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto.  Join us there and sign up for this great new band!

Join the Toronto Concert Band for its premiere performance at the prestigious Glenn Gould Studio in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district.

The Toronto Concert Band is comprised of 60 musicians of all ages. It is led by two band music icons in the city of Toronto, Les Dobbin and Ken Hazlett. With over six decades of concert band leadership between them, this performance represents a milestone for music in the city.

The concert programme is loaded with rich and varied repertoire – from Percy Grainger and Ralph Vaughan-Williams to Robert W. Smith and Eric Whitacre to Frankie Valli and The Beatles – including hot Spanish rhythms, jaunty sea songs, timeless folk pieces, modern themes and splashy Jersey Boys hits. Make it a night out, with dinner at one of countless nearby restaurants then head over to the studio, or enjoy the concert and hit the town afterward.

Please join us in the first concert of our second season, the 2015 Fall Concert! The Toronto Concert Band is the city’s latest community concert band, and is comprised of 75 musicians from all over the Greater Toronto Area. Directed by Les Dobbin and Ken Hazlett, the TCB is critically acclaimed and will be performing at the intimate but incredible Glenn Gould Studio in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment distict. Our concert will feature a number of classical and popular pieces, including Carmina Burana mvts 1-4, Shenandoah, Ross Roy, Bond… James Bond, Kingsmere Overture, Tir Na Nog, Quad City Stomp, Fields of Honor, Selections from Grease, and much more!

Join us on February 20th at 7:30 for our first concert in the community. We will be performing in Etobicoke at Islington United Church. Our concert, Pipe Dreams, will be featuring organist Dr. John Derksen performing Toccata in B minor by Eugene Gigout and Symphony #3 (III. Finale) “Organ Symphony” by Camille Saint-Saëns with the band.

The band will also feature Carmina Burana (V – VIII) by Carl Orff, First Suite in E-flat by Gustav Holst, Requiem (Introit, Kyrie Eleison) by W. A. Mozart, Suite Française (I, IV) by Darius Milhaud and much more!

For our final concert of our 2015-2016 season, we return to the beautiful Glenn Gould Studio right in the heart of Toronto’s entertainment district, for the fourth time. Make it a night out, with dinner at one of the countless nearby restaurants, then head over to the studio, or enjoy the concert and hit the town afterward!

The Toronto Concert Band presents “Stomp on Front”, a night of music that will fill you with rhythms, sounds, images and emotions from around the world. Its percussionists are joined by special guest Rhythm Works, with Troy Sexton (from the London and New York casts of Stomp) and Sheldon De Souza in a performance of Michael Sweeney’s Quad City Stomp. The rhythm keeps going with Tico Tico, a famous classic and fast-paced piece about an observant cuckoo bird. Enjoy the sounds of Dizzy Gillespie’s A Night In Tunisia, a saxophone feature, along with a very special arrangement of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody. On the more traditional side, the tcb will conclude its season-long performance of Carmina Burana with the final five movements, perform Scenes from “The Louvre” by Norman Dello Joio, along with works by Robert W. Smith, Jacob de Haan, and more.

The Toronto Concert Band presents Musical Expeditions. The performance will feature music about places, journeys, and travels. With music ranging from Rimsky-Korsakov’s famous Procession of the Nobles, to Oscar and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! to modern works like Robert W. Smith’s Inferno (from the Divine Comedy), let the tcb transport you across the globe and by way of different modes, for an evening of music to kick off our third concert season.

Join the TCB on March 4th at 7:30pm for Hallelujah! – a celebration featuring Hallelujah Chorus from Handel’s The Messiah, Copland’s famous Appalachian Spring, and the second installment of our season-long performance of Robert W. Smith’s The Divine Comedy: Purgatorio. In addition, we will play more from Copland, along with Grainger, Whitacre, Hazo, and more.
